Self-Directed Study

The primary intent behind the creation of study guides is to provide the basic tools, methods, and a "jumping-off" point for the individual who is sincerely seeking to push beyond the envelope of their present perceptions, pre-conceived notions, bias, and understanding of what they might define as their spirituality or spiritual progression.

Except for the content of the syllabus, the content for Study Guides are entirely derived directly from the writings of novelist and spiritual teacher Joseph John (JJ) Dewey; and are as another purpose of these study guides is to introduce readers to JJ's teachings and methodologies. However, it is acknowledged that these teachings may not be for everyone; therefore, students are encouraged to take what they need and want from these study guides, and then seek, utilize, adapt, and synthesize other teachings and methods as it suits their personal needs, desires and goals.

The majority of the reading and study materials are provided for free and are either contained within the text of the individual Study Guide, or a link -- often an off-site link to JJ's Main Website (FreeRead.Com) -- accompany each quoted excerpt, quotation and/or reading assignment.

Basically, all that is truly needed is a sincere heart, a love and desire for truth, a questioning attitude, and an open mind.

Should you have a question about the ideological or philosophical content of these Study Guides, you are invited to contact JJ Dewey. Please contact the webmaster for all other questions and comments.

  • Study Guide One -- Prayer, Meditation, and Contemplation
It is not unusual for "New Agers" to think that traditional prayers and praying are from "the dark ages" and outmoded; and Chrisitian believe to that meditation is "not ordained of God." Un-Christian, harmful, and even "evil." Explore how it is that both may not only be incorrect in their thinking, but both missing a key ingredient in the success of both methods of spiritual communication:  Contemplation.
  • Study Guide Two -- Relationships
This study guide is about more than just romantic relationships and "love interests." It is about the many kinds of relationships that we all have and experience in our lives -- to include those that are of a romantic nature. This study guide is designed to help you explore these various relationships with others and improve on them.
